Childhood & Required School Immunizations
Now is the time to make sure that your student is back-to-school ready! Get your child up to date on their immunizations to help them have healthy school year.
On-time vaccination throughout childhood is essential because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Vaccines are tested to ensure that they are safe and effective for children to receive at the recommended ages.
Required School Vaccines
Schools require immunizations for entry into kindergarten, 7th grade, 12th grade, and when transferring into Fairfax County public schools. Failure to do so may impact a student’s ability to return to school in the fall.

Where to get a vaccine
Vaccines are available through private physicians, pharmacies, and clinics.
The Fairfax County Health Department offers school-required immunizations at the Health Department clinics free of charge by appointment only. Please call ahead to make an appointment at 703-246-7100. See below for a list of what to bring to your appointment.

Childhood Immunization Schedule (Birth to 18 Years Old)
Protect infants and children with vaccinations early in life, when they are most vulnerable and before they are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Vaccinations are available through your health care provider or Fairfax County Health Department clinics.

COVID-19 Vaccines
Everyone six months and older is encouraged to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. A COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same time as school vaccinations. While COVID-19 vaccination is not required for school, it will provide protection from the severe illness.

Getting Immunizations at the Health Department
Please call 703-246-7100 for an appointment. Parent's should bring the following items with them to the clinic.
- Insurance Card
- The child's immunization record. If your immunization records are not in English, please seek the assistance of an appropriate translator to translate your record. Without an immunization record in English, your child may need to restart his or her immunization series. How do I find my child's immunization record?
- Fill out and print the following forms. If you are unable to print these forms, they will be provided to you at the time of your appointment.
